Standard Passive Components including Resistors, Capacitors, and Inductors
Resistor Packages
Package names for through hole axial resistors are in the form of Tddll/sss
where:
T/S is the package style. Use T for Thru-hole and S for Surface Mount
dd = diameter of package (in mm)
ll = length of package body (in mm)
/ is a literal character
sss = spacing of lead holes (in mm)
This table matches the nominal size of the package to the power rating for axial resistor packages
| Nominal Size | Power Rating |
| T0204 | 1/8W |
| T0307 | 1/4W |
| T0411 | 1/2W |
| T0513 | 1 W |
| T0617 | 2 W |
| T0719 | 3 W |
NOTE: Many manufacturers have a “MINIATURE” version of their resistor packs. The power rating of these packages is doubled for a given nominal size (i.e. the T0307 package has a power dissipation of 1/2 W)
The physical sizes shown here are normalized from the data sheets of several manufacturers including Panasonic, Yageo, Ohmite, and Huntington Electric. These sizes are intended to allow use by any manufacturer. The actual dimensions themselves are chosen so that any package from any manufacturer at the maximum tolerance will not exceed the nominal size.
Capacitor Packages
Electrolytic Aluminium
Examination of several vendor datasheets (Panasonic Series M/KS/KA/FC/NHG/EB/SU/KG, Nippon Chemi-con Series SMG/KMG/KY/KZE/LXY, Nichicon Series PW/VR/VZ) show a sequence of normalized package sizes/lead spacing for radial electrolytic capacitors (in mm) of 3.0/1.0, 4.0/1.5, 5.0/2.0, 6.3/2.5, 8.0/3.5, 10.0/5.0, 12.5/5.0, 16.0/7.5, 18.0/7.5, 20.0/10.0, 22.0/10.0, 25.0/12.5.
To make these dimensions more useful on imperial based grids the lead spacings of 1.5, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0, and 12.5 have been normalized to 1.27, 2.54, 5.08, 7.62, 10.16, and 12.7 respectively.
Both package grids are available in this library and are found in the package name in the format of TCEddd/ssss
where:
T/S is the package style. Use T for Thru-hole and S for Surface Mount
CE is a literal string meaning “Capacitor Electrolytic” ddd = diameter of package (in mm)
/ is a literal character
ssss = spacing of lead holes (in mm)
Ceramic Disc
Ceramic Disc names are in the form of TCDdddww/ssss
where:
T/S is the package style. Use T for Thru-hole and S for Surface Mount
CD is a literal string meaning “Capacitor Disc” or “Ceramic Disc”
ddd = maximum diameter of the package (in mm)
ww = maximum width of the package (in mm)
/ is a literal character
ssss = spacing of lead holes (in mm)
Similar to the electrolytic capacitors, the lead spacing has rounded units for both metric and imperial layouts.
